Prius Prime Wins KBB Electric/Hybrid Best Buy of 2017 Award

There's a lot of buzz in the green-car world about the 2017 Prius Prime. What's so "prime" about it? Unlike the Toyota Prius, which is a conventional hybrid, the Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid. That means users may plug it in to an outlet to give the battery additional charge, just like an electric car. On one full battery charge, the 2017 Prius Prime can drive up…

Toyota Factory Nominated for Bats Project Award by Wildlife Habitat Council

Oregon is home to 15 species of bat. To the average person, this information is superfluous, even scary. To wildlife enthusiasts, however, it is a point of pride. The Salem area is one ripe with biodiversity.

Are Hybrid Vehicles Like the Toyota Prius Too Quiet?

If you’ve ever been out walking, jogging or cycling and had a close encounter with a motor vehicle, you know how scary it can be. In fact, approximately 125,000 accidents occur each year between pedestrians and automobiles. Of that number, roughly 2,800 involve so-called “quiet cars,” like hybrid and electric vehicles.

Regulators brought these concerns to the government and, in 2010, Congress passed a law stating that these vehicles must use some sort of noise-generating device to alert individuals of their presence on the road.

Does Hydrogen Create Water, Or Does Water Create Hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the first element on the period table. It's light, small, and the most abundant element in the universe. Its ionized form, H+, is synonymous with a proton.

It comes in many forms, and can be described many ways, but it was named originally for its contribution to the water molecule, H2O. Hydrogen translates, from its Greek roots, to "Water forming."

When hydrogen burns by interacting with oxygen in the air, it becomes water. This makes it an ideal fuel, because it releases energy without contributing to carbon emissions.

How Long Have Hybrids Been Around?

With the hydrogen-fueled Toyota Mirai on the horizon this fall, what better time to look back at Toyota's other breakthrough in green driving technology: the hybrid.

The Toyota Prius took the US by storm when introduced in 2000. It was one of the first commercially available hybrids in 100 years.

Yes, you heard that right. Hybrids only got popular in the last 15 years, but they've been around for over 100.

All the nay-sayers may be a bit cynical. Famed scientist, futurist, and optimist Michio Kaku raves about the potential of hydrogen at CES.

Using a fuel source that comes from cow manure seems like a wonderful way to…
