On November 6th, electric, hybrid and low-emission rides are going to travel a 60-mile course from Brighton to London. This is part of a huge effort to display the best energy performance during the route. Organized by the Royal Automobile Club, 250,000 spectators are expected to turn out for the Challenge, which will demonstrate the advantages of owning low carbon vehicles.
Prius models old and new will take part in the race to mark Toyota's 10th anniversary and two million sales of the hybrid car.
The Japanese auto maker will also unveil its latest model, a Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Advanced, at the race. It comprises an electric motor along with hydrogen fuel tanks; the vehicle emits no carbon emissions at all.
A Prius Plug-in Hybrid and one with 'hybrid synergy drive' will also be entered in the competition. The Prius Plug-in just debuted recently throughout the UK, and should be available in the US by late 2011.
