As everyone will remember last year's devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, greatly impacted Toyota and other Japanese automakers. This is why we at dealer are very proud to report today that new Toyota models are being produced at 100-percent capacity, and that sales numbers are increasing over last year.
June numbers are here to prove it: Toyota sales for the month of June a close to a sixty-percent increase in sales volume over last year. More specifically, Toyota sold 157,773 vehicles in June this year compared to 100,164 in 2011. This represent a 57.5-percent increase in sales volume.
Now you may be wondering, which model was the most popular? It seems that the mid-size sedans and hybrid models are the biggest hit with drivers. Specifically, 32,107 units of the 2012 Toyota Camrywere sold, equating to a 50.2-percent increase in June sales over last year. Another big hit, was the Toyota Prius Family of Cars (including 2012 Toyota Prius, the subcompact 2012 Toyota Prius c, and larger 2012 Toyota Prius v) which saw an amazing 341.2-percent increase with 19,150 sold.
Small crossover SUV and truck models are also on the rise. An increase of 66.2 percent was seeing in sales of the 2012 Toyota RAV4, with 15,129 sold, while 11,864 2012 Toyota Tacoma were sold, representing a sales increase of 45.9 percent.
"June and first-half year sales were driven by consumer interest in our new models including the Prius c, the newest member of the Prius family, and the Camry, the best-selling car in America," says Bob Carter, Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "We expect to see continued stability in the automotive market during the second half of 2012 thanks to pent-up demand, low interest rates and a continued influx of new products."1
