It doesn't matter if you're a new driver, an experienced driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian; Toyota is trying to keep you safe. And in knowing that keeping the general public properly educated is half the battle, Toyota recently teamed up with the Discovery Channel to air a new documentary titled Life Behind the Wheel.

As implied by its name, Life Behind the Wheel is an in-depth exploration of the driving habits of a wide range of demographics throughout the country. Toyota took a focused approach, recruiting Discovery not only for airing the documentary, but in filming it as well. In fact, with the help of Discovery Education, Toyota even unearthed some startling facts.

For instance, while we all know that texting while driving can cause accidents, it may be shocking to know that engaging in such behavior can actually make a driver 8 to 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident. Other discoveries include the fact that more than half of all child seats are improperly installed and that elderly drivers experience four times as many accidents per mile than middle-aged ones.

In other words, it's safe to say that this partnership was a success for both parties involved. And John Whyte, MD and Chief Medical Expert for Discovery confirms this by saying, "We are proud to partner with Toyota for this important documentary.  Safe driving is a life-long lesson.  Life Behind the Wheel gives people of all ages critical information while highlighting important new strides in technology that are creating better drivers and saving lives along the way."1
