In case you haven't already heard, Toyota (parent company of Scion) and Subaru have joined forces to co-create a new car. Under the Subaru brand, it's known as the BRZ STI and recently debuted at the L.A. Auto Show. There's a production Scion version, too: the FR-S. It just recently made a celebrity showing in none other than Hollywood, California.
While the name, Scion FR-S seems ordinary enough, let us assure you, there is nothing ordinary about it. FR-S stands for Front-Engine, Rear-Wheel-Drive Sport. In speed-fiend terms, this translates into 200 horsepower (hp) and 151 lb.-ft. of torque...the same specs promised by its sibling Subaru.
So, what about the sexy 2013 Scion FR-S is Subaru and what is Toyota? Good question. The FA-series boxter engine is Subaru sourced. The direct-injection fuel system is Toyota. The tires are Michelin. And, the transmission is drivers' choice of either an Aisin six-speed, three-pedal manual or conventional automatic.
Of course, the body of the 2013 Scion FR-S mirrors the car's ability to excite. Showcased in a deep red, it features dynamic lines that evoke the car's vital energy. Coupe styling is made sportier than ever with an open-front fascia; distinct, set-back honeycomb grille design; and low-rider stance. And, when we say "low-rider", we mean low rider. The new Scion FR-S coupe's center of gravity is lower than many of the more preeminent sports cars on the road today, including even the Cayman.
If you're on the edge of your seat with anticipation, know you're not alone. Drivers across the Salem area are too. As such, it brings Capitol Toyota great joy to tell you the new Scion FR-S is slated to be available nationwide, starting next spring. However, it will first make an appearance at the North American Auto Show in Detroit, MI. So, be sure to stay tuned for more updates on the Scion FR-S, coming soon.
