An urban oriented car designed to appeal young drivers with an approachable price tag and envious fuel economy, the Toyota Scion iQ is perhaps best known for appealing to buyers super-practical sensibilities. It's not your typical track car by any stretch of the imagination… Or, is it?

Sure, at first glance it seems unlikely that the Toyota Scion iQ would find itself track bound. But, when you consider its exceptional light weight and long wheelbase, it seems like a much more feasible idea.

Like Toyota, Gazoo Racing saw potential in the unsuspecting Scion iQ and worked to make it more capable on the track. Dubbed the GRMN (Gazoo Racing tuned by MN) iQ Racing concept, the unconventional race car is tricked out for race track action with a supercharged engine, roll cage, racing wheels, deep front air dam, and big air intake to suck up plenty of oxygen.

It should also be noted that the idea of boosting the Scion iQ for the track is not a new one.  It has a strong, not to mention, successful heritage. When Gazoo's previous iQ concept was given a limited production run in Japan in 2009; it sold out immediately.

The GRMN iQ Racing concept is just one of 17 vehicles prepared by the Toyota Motor Corporation and its subsidiaries for this year's Japanese Auto Show. Among the other vehicles Toyota featured are the: Yaris (a.k.a. Vitz), Auris, Corolla, Prius, Noah, FJ Cruiser, Ractis, Lexus CT, and IS F modified by Gazoo, Toyota Racing Development, G Sports…even Fujii Speedway, and a staff collective known as the Toyota Engineering Society.
