The first generation Toyota Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle and is currently sold in more than 70 countries around the world. The Toyota Prius Plug-In, based on the 3rd generation, might be the newest addition to the Prius Family of Cars, but that doesn't mean it's having any trouble fitting right in. In fact, the all-new Prius Plug-In outsold both the Volt and LEAF in April.
If you want to look at numbers, of the combined 25,168 Prius hybrids sold last month, 1,654 were the limitedly-released Prius Plug-In. Toyota had estimated sales at roughly 16,000 to 17,000 for the Prius Plug-In this year. Looks like, they are right on track!
Some may argue that these sales increases in the Toyota Prius Family of Cars are only due ti rising gas prices. Well, Capitol Toyota will answer that there are a number of other merits to the Prius name other than fuel economy.
For instance, the Toyota Prius Plug-In has been named the "Best Car to Buy for 2012" by GreenCarReports.com and has been cited as having the "Lowest Maintenance Costs" in its class according to IntelliChoice. In the same time, the original Toyota Prius has earned a "Five-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was named "Top Safety Pick" by the 2012 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
