As explained by Jon Kimber, director of British Gas New Energy, the party responsible for the fitting and installation of Toyota's solar-panel project, "With energy costs increasing and a tough financial climate, all businesses are looking at ways to cut their bills as well as reduce their carbon emissions. Solar power has the potential to make this happen and really revolutionize the way Britain's homes and businesses generate energy."1
"Generating solar power on-site to supply electricity to the plant underlines our commitment to do even more to further reduce our carbon footprint and is yet another example of our environmental leadership,"1 added Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Manufacturing UK.
The Japanese automaker will allegedly be the first car manufacturer in the UK to install a large-scale array of solar panels. Toyota estimates the facility's 17,000-solar-panel array will supply enough energy to produce 7,000 cars per year!
Will that affect the company's Carbon footprint? Yes, indeed, it will reduced it by 2,000 tons per year!
The panels are expected to begin supplying power to the Derbyshire plant as soon as July.
