When different automakers unite to create a better product for both parties, those of us in Salem, Oregon, and beyond, are the beneficiaries. For Toyota, partnering up with BMW will give them an added dimension of versatility, and vice versa, for the German automaker.

First, there's going to be a lot of sharing. Most people know that Toyota, with models like the Prius, are well-versed in hybrid technology. One part of the agreement is to take the next step in engineering lithium-ion batteries, electric motors, and more, and BMW is there to lend its knowledge, and bolster its hybrid offerings, too.

In turn, BMW will give Toyota a supply of diesel engines for the European market. This will help Toyota make more inroads across the pond, using the fuel of choice for many drivers abroad.

Also, by 2020, both automakers hope to have a shared fuel cell platform for the creation of a zero emission vehicle that runs using hydrogen. While they develop that technology for the future, both Toyota and BMW are also making lightweight technology that can be applied to many new Toyota vehicles, and make them more efficient.

Finally, there's the platform to build a sports car. Both will be quite different, but we know that everyone will get behind this ride, as speed and performance are never bad things.

To learn more about the agreement, or any new Toyota stop in and see us today, as we'd be happy to continue the conversation. Capitol Toyota is located at 783 Auto Group Avenue in Salem and proudly serves the neighboring areas of Portland, Wilsonville and Beaverton.
