Feast Your Senses on the Altogether Fantastic 2016 Toyota 4Runner

Take it from your chums here at Capitol Toyota: we know a good thing when we see one. And the 2016 Toyota 4Runner, our midsize SUV, is no doubt a very good thing, indeed.

How has this utility vehicle garnered such unmitigated praise? Autotrader reviewer, Jabari Jones, is here with an explanation:

Motivated by a 4.0-liter V6, the 4Runner is rated at a very respectable 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission offered. And though rear-wheel drive is standard on most models, the available four-wheel system is well worth your consideration ...

Whatever the Weather, SightLine Wiper Blades Have Your Back

Winter is coming. Apart from over-used Game of Thrones memes featuring Ned Stark clutching a sword, this means time for frozen wiper blades.

Actually it means frozen just-about-everything, but one of the greatest road hazards you will face is reduced visibility-- and sometimes this is caused by your wiper blades leaving behind streaks of water that can freeze.

What you may not know is that wiper blades are only expected to last about a year. Some recommend changing them every six months.

You probably haven't done that.

It's okay, everyone can get a little behind on maintenance, and…

Toyota Batteries Given a New Lease on Life at Yellowstone National Park

What could be better than giving up your daily commute to retire to the gorgeous plains and mountains of Yellowstone National Park? This is exactly the opportunity given to the batteries of 208 lucky Toyota Camry Hybrids.

What makes these batteries deserving of such a luxurious life after cars? Unlike a conventional car battery, which is only needed for ignition, voltage regulation, and a few other things, the battery of a hybrid pulls weight. The hybrid battery needs to be powerful enough to actually move the car.

Batteries don't suddenly break. They fade slowly, until they are no longer…

The New Toyota Tacoma is Quantitatively Fun

In science, you talk about "quantitative" data and "qualitative" data. Quantitative means something you can put a number to-- how many degrees Fahrenheit, how many grams, how many inches, etc.

Qualitative data is softer-- how something makes you feel.

Usually, how much fun something is falls under the realm of qualitative. You might ask participants to fill out a survey, and rate their experience. It's one way to gather data, but it isn't the best way.

To test out the new Toyota Tacoma, Toyota brought in a neuroscientist, and fitted competitors with an electrodermal-sensing wrist band.

It's most certainly in the conversation.

Does Hydrogen Create Water, Or Does Water Create Hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the first element on the period table. It's light, small, and the most abundant element in the universe. Its ionized form, H+, is synonymous with a proton.

It comes in many forms, and can be described many ways, but it was named originally for its contribution to the water molecule, H2O. Hydrogen translates, from its Greek roots, to "Water forming."

When hydrogen burns by interacting with oxygen in the air, it becomes water. This makes it an ideal fuel, because it releases energy without contributing to carbon emissions.

Here's our two cents on checking tire depth

There's some old wisdom on how to tell when you need new tires. Take a penny, and insert it into your tire tread with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can still see his hair above the tire tread, then you need new tires.

This method works because every penny is standard, and the top of Honest Abe's head is 2/32 inch from the top of the coin.

But watch what happens when a car with 2/32 inch tread tries to stop, compared to a car with 10/32 inch tread.

If you were going…

How Long Have Hybrids Been Around?

With the hydrogen-fueled Toyota Mirai on the horizon this fall, what better time to look back at Toyota's other breakthrough in green driving technology: the hybrid.

The Toyota Prius took the US by storm when introduced in 2000. It was one of the first commercially available hybrids in 100 years.

Yes, you heard that right. Hybrids only got popular in the last 15 years, but they've been around for over 100.
